Winter’s Natural Rhythms
Biologically, winter is a time when our bodies naturally crave more calories and extra rest—a built-in survival mechanism. Yet modern life often pushes us in the opposite direction, demanding relentless productivity, ambitious resolutions to shed holiday weight, and the maintenance of a picture-perfect image. This toxic ideal permeates even our language. Look up the scientific term “torpid”, and you'll find its colloquial use defines with words like “sluggish,” “lazy,” and “slow thinking.”
But in reality, torpor is a critical biological function—a kind of hibernation lite, allowing organisms to conserve energy and thrive in challenging conditions. Maybe it’s time we embraced our own seasonal slowdown.
So, as a small act of rebellion against a society that glorifies burnout, let’s honor our biology, rest a little more, and enjoy a rich, indulgent treat—because sometimes slowing down is the healthiest thing we can do.

2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 TBS melted butter
2 TBS Pecan Praline Bourbon
Chocolate Drizzle
1/4 cup melted chocolate chips
1 TBS melted butter
Directions
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease it lightly.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, light brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate small bowl, mix the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined—do not overmix.
Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of finely chopped pecans.
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups. Fill each about 2/3 full.
Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips and chopped pecans on top of each muffin.
Bake for 14–17 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
Once baked, remove the muffins from the oven and allow them to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
While the muffins are cooling, prepare the drizzles in two small bowls:
Praline drizzle: Mix powdered sugar, 1 TBS melted butter, and Pecan Praline Bourbon until smooth.
Chocolate drizzle: Mix melted chocolate chips and 1 TBS melted butter until smooth.
Drizzle the praline mixture and chocolate drizzle over the cooled muffins. Let the drizzles set for a few minutes.
